For the fourth time in just twelve starts Mad-Croc’s Sami Selio has shown the twenty two drivers how to get the job done when he set the fastest time in qualifying for the fourteenth Grand Prix of Sharjah. 
Having earned two world titles here back in 2007 and again in 2010 Selio is no stranger to the Khaled Lagoon race course, “ This is a drivers course” said the man from Helsinki, who has more podium finishes than any driver in the history of racing in Sharjah with seven. “You have to be on the right line throughout the entire lap, there is no room for errors here” he continued.
Having finished in third place a week ago in Abu Dhabi, Selio and his Mad-Croc F1 Team have been using the time wisely focussing on propeller choice for the tricky 2.3 kilometre six turn course. “We don’t have a specialist prop man, so it’s down to me to make what I think is the best choice, today I called it right, though to be honest the engine was on the limit.” With no repeat of the mechanical gremlins that the team suffered in Abu Dhabi, they have been able to make good use of all the free practice time and Selio said that played a major part in him securing his nineteenth career pole position.
With three drivers, Selio, Philippe Chiappe and Thani Al Qamzi still in the hunt for the coveted runner-up position in the driver’s championship, Selio knows just how important getting a good start in the Grand Prix will be. “I said before qualifying that Andersson will be my biggest threat and he has another great driver, Jay Price alongside him, neither of them have anything to loose by trying to out jump me at the start” commented Selio. “Of course it would be excellent to finish as runner up in the championship, but just think what it would have been like if I hadn’t been taken out in the Grand Prix of China.”
